The Ride
The Ferry to Devonport, Tasmania leaves from Melbourne. I approached from the St. Kilda beach direction, getting a good view of the ferry in the distance.
Getting on board was straightforward. I jumped the queue of cars and was instructed to park the bike up in a place with straps and buckles to hold it secure.
On board there are 13 decks, of which about 3 contain the main entertainment areas. My "ocean recliner" looked like this:
Well I didn't bother with this chair, I just headed to the bar and stayed there all night. Yes, it was an overnight ferry, leaving around 8:30pm and arriving at Devonport around 6am.
There was a small tourist information shop where I picked up a map of Tasmania. Also a cinema where I watched about half a movie on a tiny screen. That was about all the entertainment - Except watching people feeling sick that is!
The crossing got seriously choppy as we crossed the Bass Strait. The boat was swaying from side to side very strongly and I felt extremely sick. Thankfully I hung on for grim death and didn't manage to throw up. But lots of others did, and I did not want to take any photos, sorry!
